3 Averages of quadratic forms

The bridge between the analytic side of the problem and the algebra of matrices and operators is one identity: the average of a quadratic form along a family is a trace against its Gram matrix, or against its Gram operator for a family with values in a Hilbert space. Read from right to left it says that a trace is an average, which is how the construction finds a point.
